Electrical project
An electrical project, elektrik projesi in Turkish practice, is prepared by an electrical engineer to define how power is distributed through a building and how every electrical system works. The route from the grid connection to each socket and light fitting is drawn here, together with the safety measures along the way.
Parts of the electrical design
- Power: main and sub-distribution boards, socket and lighting circuits, equipment supplies, earthing and lightning protection.
- Low voltage: data and telephone, TV and satellite, video door entry, CCTV, fire detection and alarm.
- Supplies for lifts, pumps and mechanical plant
- Generators and uninterruptible power supplies where required
Links with architecture and interiors
The electrical project and the lighting design are tightly bound. Fitting positions, switch and socket heights and their relationship to the furniture layout shape everyday comfort. An electrical layout drawn before the furniture plan is settled tends to lead to chased walls on site and years of extension leads.
Smart home systems fall within this scope too. Our article on smart home systems for modern interiors explains how to plan that infrastructure at the design stage.
