A landscape project is prepared by a landscape architect to define how the spaces outside a building are used and how they look. Paths, walking routes, seating and play areas, planting, water features, lighting and ground levels are designed as one whole.

What it includes

  • Hardscape: paving, steps, retaining walls, pergolas and street furniture
  • Softscape: a planting plan of trees, shrubs, ground cover and lawn
  • Grading and drainage: shaping the ground and directing surface water
  • Irrigation and landscape lighting
  • Material and plant schedules and construction details

Why it is a project of its own

Landscape is not decoration to fill the space around a building. Plant choices must suit the climate, water use and the maintenance the client can realistically provide. Trees give shade and shelter from wind, helping the building’s energy performance. Poorly resolved levels and drainage send rainwater towards the building. In housing developments and public buildings, landscape is a big part of daily life.

When landscape ideas are rendered, the image can show planting at maturity, seasonal change and night lighting. Our landscape visualization service is set up for exactly these projects.
