Moodboard

A moodboard is a collection that shows how a project should feel before any drawing starts. Photographs, colour swatches, fabric and timber samples, furniture images and sometimes a few words share one board. It can be a physical card panel or a digital page.

What a moodboard is for

Its main value is communication. Phrases such as “warm but modern” or “simple but not boring” mean different things to different people, and a board clears that up quickly. Clients can point to what they like and dislike, and the designer builds the colour and material palette from there. A good moodboard is selective. Not every appealing image gets on; only those speaking the same language stay. Boards made with real material samples also avoid the colour shifts you get on screens.

From moodboard to render

During visualization the moodboard becomes the reference for material and lighting decisions. When designer, client and visualizer all look at the same board, revisions drop noticeably. Preparing one is among the most useful steps before commissioning interior images, as covered in the guide to interior rendering services.
