Renovation project
A renovation project, tadilat projesi in Turkish practice, shows the changes planned for an existing building against its current state. Removing or adding walls, changing facade openings, adding a storey, changing the building’s use or altering its structure all fall under it.
How it is prepared
- The existing building is measured and compared with the approved drawings.
- Drawings separate demolition from new work with different colours or hatches.
- Any change affecting the structure gets a structural assessment.
- Mechanical and electrical drawings are updated where needed.
When is approval needed?
In Turkey, changes that affect the structure, the facade, common areas or the building’s use require municipal approval. In buildings under condominium ownership, work touching shared parts may also need the consent of the other owners. Exactly which work needs a permit depends on the regulations and the local municipality, so checking before starting is always wise.
What clients find hardest in renovation is picturing the result in advance. Showing the existing condition and the proposal side by side in renders speeds up decisions. Our article on architectural renovation walks through the process.
