How Are the Best Chandeliers Made?
The production of crystal chandeliers involves many unique processes, each of which directly affects the shape of the final product. The best chandelier models are produced in different sizes and custom shapes before being offered to the customer.
Before production of the components begins, the technical drawings used to create the individual elements need to be prepared in 3D programs. The mold used to create the glass castings must have a permanent shape so that it does not cause unwanted changes in the casting during use.
With the chosen material, the mold is reviewed again and again to eliminate errors before it is used repeatedly.
The basic glass raw material is a mixture of glass sand, limestone, potash, soda and lead, known as glass modifiers.
1) The glass mixture is then melted in glass furnaces at a temperature of about 1,250 degrees Celsius.
2) Once the mixture has fully melted, a refining process follows to remove unwanted bubbles and impurities from the molten glass.
3) After the glass cools (glazing), it is worked. The heated glass is blown into prepared molds using blowpipes (hollow metal rods with a wooden holder and a mouthpiece at the top).
4 ) The desired shape is achieved by rotating the blowpipe so that it fills completely with the molten mixture. More complex shapes are made with pliers and other glassworking tools.
5) After the casting cools, the excess parts that overlap the mold and create unwanted protrusions on the component are removed.
6) The resulting part is polished mechanically or chemically. Special adjustments are then made, which vary according to the nature of the components and the customer’s specific requirements.
The individual chandelier parts are made by hand, and the final manual assembly and installation of the fixture is in the hands of specialists with many years of experience in the industry.
Thanks to their careful work, beautiful crystal products that rank among the best on the market can be created.
