What Is Landscape Architecture? Its Importance and Services
What landscape architecture is, why it matters for cities and nature, and what landscape architecture services include from design to maintenance.
What Is Landscape Architecture? This is an important question for anyone who wants to hire landscape architecture services. Landscape architecture covers the whole process, from planning land to managing it.
Landscape work, the kind that makes you stop and admire the gardens you walk past, reshapes life with color and design. Projects are carried out in harmony with the character of the surrounding environment.
Project work begins after the necessary site surveys. Architects who care about the environment bring innovation to spaces by combining technology and mathematics.
Spaces are adapted to physical conditions and human life. The field covers areas such as parks, gardens, roadsides, campuses and resorts.
Changes in the natural environment are designed to suit the ecosystem. Many factors also come into play, such as the climate, vegetation, soil, erosion risk and geography of the site.
Traditional areas are redesigned in a modern way, and natural areas are restored. Architects who understand nature and the environment work to meet needs while also paying attention to visual design.
Landscape architecture is a discipline concerned with the planning, design, management and protection of outdoor spaces. It involves combining natural and built elements to design open spaces, improve landscapes, protect natural resources and make it easier for people to spend time outdoors.
Landscape architects can design a wide range of places, such as parks, gardens, campuses, golf courses, commercial areas, residential complexes and industrial sites, and they manage many elements depending on the project, from plant selection to water features and other structural elements.
What Is Landscape Architecture Worth Today? Why It Matters
Landscape architecture is very important in a period marked by dwindling non-renewable energy sources, careless consumption of resources, felled trees and spreading concrete. With a constantly growing population, it is very hard to stop urbanization and construction. However, this profession offers solutions instead of ignoring the damage buildings do to the environment.
The answer to the question of what landscape architecture is goes beyond planting parks and gardens: it also gives existing buildings a new look. Thanks to planting in particular, it is easy to feel as if you are in a forest or a garden in many places, even airports.
Landscape architecture is a discipline concerned with shaping, designing and organizing the environments people live in and natural areas. It has an in-depth understanding of how people use the natural environment and how the natural environment affects people. Landscape architects work on parks, gardens, public spaces, roads, water resources and many other areas, bringing natural and built elements together to create aesthetic, functional and sustainable environments.
Landscape architecture also brings many important benefits, including:
- Improving the environment: Landscape architecture helps improve the environment by organizing and enhancing natural areas. It also plays an important role in coping with natural disasters.
- Enhancing aesthetic value: Landscape architecture adds aesthetic value to public spaces and helps people appreciate the natural environment more.
- Social benefits: Landscape architecture offers social benefits by helping people interact more with the natural environment. Natural areas reduce stress and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
- Economic benefits: Landscape architecture makes an important contribution to tourism. Well-designed natural areas attract tourists and contribute to the local economy.
For these reasons, landscape architecture is an important discipline environmentally, socially and economically.

Planting and hardscape designs are also created for housing developments and shared-use areas. In addition, as part of landscape architecture services , facilities such as rest areas and recreation facilities are designed and maintained.
While providing this architectural service, many 3D programs can also be used. In 3D design, using SketchUp as well as other 3D programs speeds up the workflow and greatly improves efficiency. SketchUp makes it very easy to work on large landscape areas, and renders can be produced quickly with connected render engines. Because it makes working on large areas so easy, SketchUp plays an important role here.
